"And when they say to you, ‘Seek those who are mediums and wizards, who whisper and mutter,’ should not a people seek their God? Should they seek the dead on behalf of the living?” Isaiah 8:19 (NKJV).

“Jesus said to them, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6 (NKJV).

Have you ever heard someone say that they are praying to their dead grandmother for strength? It is not only a Catholic thing but it is a complete disconnect in a persons' faith and disobedience to God that leads people to reach out in prayer to their dead relatives, to the ‘saints’ of the church and especially to Mary the mother of Jesus Christ. Let me be very clear, Mary, the mother of Jesus is NOT the mediator of your faith and to pray to her is the same as praying to any other dead person. Jesus Christ is the way to get to the Father and it is through Him that you must pray.

You have been given a mediator in Jesus who was beaten, rejected and hung on a tree for the sins of the world. You have been instructed on how to approach God in prayer in the name of Christ. There is no way around this rule and there are no exceptions, even for His mother or the so-called saints or for any of your dead relatives. None of those people will help you, none of those people are able to provide you with anything and none of those people have the approval of God to stand as a mediator for you.

Do you think that God takes it lightly that so many ‘Christians’ ignore the words of His Son every day and are praying in the name of so many others? It is not something to think of casually. Your prayers are your communication with God and your faith is strengthened by your prayers. God does listen to the prayers of the faithful and the prayers of those whose hearts genuinely seek to worship Him in spirit and truth. Be serious in your prayers as that is the way that you approach God. Think of the holiness of the tabernacle and how so very few could actually come close. Think of the instructions to Israel about the holiness of God and how He must be worshiped. Jesus is now the mediator of your faith and it is necessary to approach both Jesus and God with reverence and awe. Do not be casual in your faith, in your prayers or in your attitude about God and Jesus Christ. Take your faith seriously so that you are able to enter through the narrow gate. Pray as the Lord has instructed you and do not turn to the right or to the left.

“My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world. Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, ‘I know Him,’ and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.” 1 John 2:1-4 (NKJV).

Heavenly Father,

I pray to You today to ask You to wake up those who are sleeping, those who are resisting You and please Father help the little ones who believe in You.  There are children hurting, children being murdered, children being abused and these littles one have such a need for Your protection  Father, so please comfort them and please bring her for them into their lives.

Father God, I know this world is defiant and this world is full of stubborn people, but You are bigger than any problem here, You are more powerful than any resistance here andYour are needed so very much by all of us here.  Please know that You are our hope and our future and we are thankful to You, God and we have hope because of Your precious Son, Jesus who I ask to watch over our children and to help their little hearts to know that they are loved.

JOHN COLLINS MINISTRIES, LOVE THAT CROSS: WORTHY OF ANSWERED PRAYER

“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.” James 1:2-4 (NKJV).

Many times, when we are going through tough times or are experiencing tragedy or extreme hardships, we will pray to God and ask for His help, for a miracle or for strength to get through. Many times, when we are not suffering, we pray to God and ask for this or that or something that we want. In order to have our prayers answered we must first seek to become worthy of answered prayers. What does that mean, ‘worthy of answered prayers’?

God does not answer prayers from non-believers although many non-believers seek His help in times of trouble. God does not answer the prayers of the unrighteous which means that He is not creating financial stability in the lives of those who do not follow His Son. Many people attribute their ‘success’ to God when He had nothing to do with it. God wants the believer to recognize their need for a Savior and to come in submission to the foot of the cross. In order to have your prayers answered, genuinely answered by God, you must follow the steps of the believer which is repentance, submission, seeking to obtain righteousness and a pure heart through obedience to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

You cannot expect God to listen to any of your prayers if you are not bothering to listen to the words of Jesus and obey them. You must seek heaven above all else and you will find yourself praying for the fruit of the Spirit to become yours and you will find yourself praying for all of the right things and those prayers will be answered. When you pray for righteousness first and mean it, then God will be for you and not against you. Look at Solomon who wanted wisdom so that he could rule as God would have him rule and God gave him wisdom and then so much more. It is not about the stuff in this life, it is about the richness of the spiritual life that you can have and in having that rich spiritual life you can be such a blessing to others and that is the heart of the gospel that will ultimately have you receiving the prize of entry into heaven.

“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” James 1:5 (NKJV).

“For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, ‘Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.’ In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.’ For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.” 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 (NKJV).

People think of these words and think of communion to be taken in church. Before there were Christian churches the apostles gathered in the homes of their fellow believers or those they hoped to bring salvation to and they would share a meal and share the truth of the Lord Jesus Christ with thanksgiving in their hearts. They would break bread and drink wine and think of Jesus’ broken body and the new covenant and they would share their faith with one another and encourage one another.

As you come and sit down to the table today just know that what you have most to be thankful for in this world is the sacrifice of Jesus because it has given you the chance to be saved. As we pray for those without food and those without shelter today, let us also praise God for His mercy and thank God for His precious Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ.

All the bounty that you will ever experience in your life and all of the hope of your eternal reward comes from God. No matter how little one has in life, as long as there is breath in the body then there is hope for salvation and every day is a day of thanksgiving.

“Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” James 1:17 (NKJV).

When Samuel was old the people of Israel asked for a king to lead them. They were told that in doing so they would be rejecting God. They insisted on being given a king. God allowed them to have their way in this folly but sent thunder and rain to show them their wickedness.

“And all the people said to Samuel, ‘Pray for your servants to the Lord your God, that we may not die; for we have added to all our sins the evil of asking a king for ourselves.’ Then Samuel said to the people, ‘Do not fear. You have done all this wickedness; yet do not turn aside from following the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart.” 1 Samuel 12:19-20 (NKJV).

We are sinners. That is a fact. Sometimes we get caught up in our sin and find it hard to turn to the Lord. Some have yet to ever accept the Lord. Some may find it difficult to quit doing what they are doing although they know that it is wrong. I will say that it is harder to turn to God and His Son when you knowingly choose to sin with the intent of asking for forgiveness later. It is also known by God and Jesus what you are doing. What I mean by that is a person who is enjoying their life and saying to themselves, “I am young, having some fun, religion is for the dying and the old and I am not there yet.” The attitude of deliberately procrastinating in repentance and obedience is a sin that must be repented of along with the sins committed.

That being said, I want to encourage the most sinful of the sinners. No matter what you have done, God loves you and Jesus loves you too. Jesus died for all of us. God knows we are weak and we are stubborn. The point that Samuel was trying to make is that even though rebellion was at hand and rejection of God was taking place, he encouraged the Hebrews to obey God and trust in Him. That is our faith. When we have acted so awfully and know that our souls are dirty and we doubt our acceptance to our Lord, just take that leap of faith and trust in their compassion. Trust in the mercy of God and trust in the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus Christ. They are calling you to come home, hoping that you choose to become obedient to the will of God and Jesus for the salvation of your soul.

“The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.” 2 Peter 3:9 (NKJV).

Prayer for the day, Pastor John Collins:

Lord, help me to embrace the moments of my life that are hard to get my arms around. Enable my eyes to see YOU in them. Help me to always acknowledge the abundance of your goodness to me. I lift to YOU the deepest struggles in my life, I trust YOU to open my eyes to see all YOU have for me in them. Reveal to me the fullness of it all, Thank you for opening my eyes to your truths and allowing me to spread your word.

PSALM 138:3 In the day when I cried out, YOU answered me, and made me bold with strength in my soul.

“Cast your burden on the Lord, And He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.” Psalm 55:22 (NKJV).

The Bible says that there is a time for everything and that is good common sense that we need to remember. We should never be carried away into singular emotions or activities for too long of periods. There is a need to allow our emotions to ebb and flow and our actions to do the same. We should never work continuously or play continuously and we should not expect to be happy continuously or allow ourselves to be sad continuously.

If sadness overwhelms you, allow yourself to weep but learn to realize that life itself is a reason to celebrate because it allows you to continue to pursue righteousness and to serve the Lord. The blackness of depression can suck you in if you let it. Call on the Lord to relieve your woes because He cares for you. All of us here on earth will be weighed down at different points in our lives and we may feel so alone but the truth is that we are loved by Jesus and God is our rock. If you find yourself in need of a friend, just pray and wait on the Lord because He will open a door for you that you did not expect.

If you are in a good place emotionally pray to God that He allow you to serve more fully His kingdom and opportunity will come your way for you to lift up another. This world can be harsh and mean and feel like a cold slap in the face. Let us take the time to welcome new friendships into our lives and let each of us allow God to prevail where we may just lose the momentum to move forward in our personal journeys.

Let us love ourselves enough to wait on the Lord and not give up on us. You faith is worth the fight and the kingdom of heaven awaits. If a tear is shed today just know that laughter is on the horizon. God is always good.

“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” John 15:13 (NKJV).

Jesus spoke these words to prepare His apostles for His crucifixion. Jesus made the ultimate sacrifice for us. Many may not expect to encounter a situation where this is a possibility here in America. Yet, there are soldiers that encounter this situation and face the possibility of death side by side there fellow soldiers every day while fighting battles for their country. There has been many wars that America has fought in and many men who have died. There is not a choice for a soldier to go to fight for their country; they just do. Most of those men will tell you that they fight for the men at their side. They face death with courage and heroism for love and loyalty of their fellow man.

I know that there is more faith taken into battle than into most churches. I know that there are more genuine prayers said and more true love felt for family and friends by those who face death than those who take life for granted. I also know that this world began with war and death when Cain slew Abel and I know that this world ends with war and death with Armageddon. I also know that this world experiences periods of peace in places of faith. The stronger the faith of the people and the more that righteousness abounds, the more we please God in heaven above and are given His intervention on our behalf. So there is something that America can do as a country to halt the wars and death of our loved ones, we can become firm in our faith and our reaching out in the name of the Lord.

I know that we see many soldiers as heroes and so they are. When you think of a soldier of courage and strength know that every soldier who ever fought has the greatest example to have ever lived in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He is hero of heroes and king of kings. He is able to be our strength and guide our efforts. Let us reach out to those without faith without discouragement and without ceasing. Trust that God and Jesus love when we say, “God bless you” to strangers in public. If you don’t yet speak up automatically, start there. Say that to those you encounter and allow your love of God to flow to others. Make an effort and be rewarded.

Paul’s letter in 1 Thessalonians 5 says to “rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” ( 1 Thessalonians 5: 16) NKJV. Pastor John Collins preaches that God wants to hear our prayers.  Some doctrines teach that there needs to be a person to intervene for your prayer; this is not so.  God sent Jesus Christ to be our intercession for prayer.  When we pray, we are to pray in Jesus’ name, as the old hymn says “what a privilege to carry everything to God in prayer.”

What a wonderful thing to be able to talk to our Father about anything and everything, from thanks to pain to worries about family, God is our loving Father who wants to hear from us.  Yes, God knows exactly what we need and He knows what is going on for us, but as our Father, He wants that personal relationship with us.  How do we do as Paul instructs to pray without ceasing?  We couldn’t work, we couldn’t attend to our physical responsibilities, and we physically cannot stay on our knees unceasingly.  The Hebrew word for without ceasing means “constantly recurring”.  Instead of trying to pray without ceasing, God wants us to tune in frequently.  As Pastor John Collins has preached, prayer should be the first thing you do when you wake up and the last thing you do before you fall asleep.  If you happen to fall asleep while praying, it’s ok, when you wake up, you will remember you were praying, finish that prayer, God understands and will hear us. Prayer and conversation with God should be a priority in our lives.

Prayer is your journal of love, hurt and worry written on your heart and trusted with the One who is trustworthy. Prayer is your place that you can admit all that you hide from the world, where you can be more honest than you ever dare to be out loud. Prayer is the place you are safe.

We should be taking the time to pray in thanks to our Creator and be willing to voice that praise out loud to all. We should be casting our cares upon Him and sharing our fears and worries while trusting that all things work for the good of them who love the Lord. We should be seeking wisdom and righteousness in all we do, coming prepared to every situation, having been founded in prayer. We should be connecting with God continuously so that His strength is what we carry with us through the days. We should never put off our prayer, ignore our need for prayer nor should we allow our prayers to become rote. We have a God that wants to hear from us, wants that relationship with us and He is seeking those who would worship Him in Spirit and Truth. Let your life be grounded in prayer, built upon prayer and fueled with prayer. Always be willing to prioritize your time and know that prayer should be at the top of the list.

“I will bless the Lord who has given me counsel; My heart also instructs me in the night seasons. I have set the Lord always before me; Because He is at my right hand I shall not be moved.” Psalm 16:7-8 (NKJV).

The best day I ever spent was in continued prayer.  It left my spirit lighter, I felt like there was accomplishment in an otherwise lackluster kind of day, and it just felt plain good.  Prayer isn’t about asking for yourself, it is part of what Jesus taught to care about others….prayer for others is what we should be doing because we should do for others what we want done for us.  There simply isn’t enough prayer, and God does want to hear from us, from our heart.  It is a relationship that those who were found to be righteous in the eyes of God had:   Abraham, Job, Enoch, Elijah, Mary, Esther, Daniel, Moses and others….all of these individuals are recorded as having a full relationship with God through prayer that pleased God. 

Evil in this world is because of our free will, Pastor John Collins reminds us, just as Jesus taught during His ministry.  God gave us free will, as a good Father, He allows us to make our own choices in our lives.  He cares that much about us to allow us to choose instead of being robot-like creatures.  Evil is a product of individuals being selfish, self-serving, desiring power and recognition (Pastor John Collins, January, 2018).

That is always a question for those who would deny that there is a God and would claim that if there was a God at all then He must not care about us and must not be all good as those who believe in His say. That is always a question for those who would deny that there is a God and would claim that if there was a God at all then He must not care about us and must not be all good as those who believe in His say. God gave men free will to live and choose to behave as they would have it and for that reason there will always be evil in this world. Evil is just selfish desires and power grabs manifested in this world. Evil is those choosing to lash out at others because of their own hurt. Evil is defiance and rebellion acted out in order to lift oneself up. Evil is petty and there will come a time when God chooses to step in and bring about further revelation to this world.

Some wait for God to act and some want to ignore the signs but while there is still yet time we should be praying for more light to shine in the darkness. Prayer is a powerful thing and God wants to hear from us, not just about our lives, our desires, our sicknesses and needs, our family and friends but about our hopes and thoughts regarding this world. Do you consider praying about those who suffer, the abused men, women and children? Do you pray for the weak? Do you pray that those who protect us are themselves protected? Do you pray that righteousness would make its way into the government? Do you pray that foreign nations would be strengthened in food and health to limit the depletion of your own country? Do you pray that revelation would come from God that would minimize the desire to blow each other up? There are people whose only desire is for more power, more money, more weapons and the opportunity to display it all for the world to see. There is evil in this world because some only care about themselves and they don’t value life or the gifts that come with it.

What so many have forgotten, failed to realize or choose to ignore is that the only true power in this world comes from God alone and all of the rest is an illusion. God is the one who has all of the strength and He really does want us to make the best choices available to us and sometimes people just don’t know what that is. Changing things in this world can start with hope and prayer. Change does need to come, more light needs to permeate the dark and more people need to wake up to the reality that things are changing and we need to change as well. We need more righteousness in this world, not more rebellion. Pray for that.

PASTOR JOHN COLLINS: THE VALUE OF WOMEN

Women through the centuries have struggled to validate their place in the world.  Pastor John Collins recognizes that Jesus and God value women.  Women are strong and courageous.  They have never been taken for granted by God.  Strong faith is what women need to face the world today, that faith in Jesus and in God will guide them.

Pastor John Collins writes:

“Jesus said to her, ‘Do not cling to Me, for I have yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, ‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.’ Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that He had spoken these things to her.” John 20:16-18

Mary Magdalene believed in Jesus, sought Him out, anointed Him with oil, wept on His feet and wiped those feet with her hair. Mary sat at the feet of Jesus, learned from Him and was a disciple of His. Mary was the one that Jesus chose to see first after He was resurrected. Mary was brave and humble when she went to Him in that house of the Pharisee as she cared not what others thought of her, nor spoke of her but cared only to go to Jesus and kiss His feet and seek His forgiveness and His acceptance and Jesus not only gave that forgiveness, accepted her love for Him but spoke that she would be remembered for her actions and He demonstrated her value when He chose to go to Mary first and to give her the honor of knowing He was alive and to relate that information along with her witness of Him to his brethren.

It took courage to follow Jesus during His ministry and it took faith to know Him as the Son of God. Mary had that courage and had great faith in her Lord. There were dark centuries that followed the beginnings of the Christian faith. There have been centuries of oppression of not only the uneducated but of women as well. Women have come a long way from the days of the dark ages, of the days of education denial (for many parts of the world, anyway), and from the denial of equality of the genders. Women push forward in their search for that equality and for the opportunities to make their mark in this world but I want to remind women that their mark has been made and has never been taken for granted by God. God values women and Jesus demonstrated the love that He had for Mary by going to her first, by teaching her and standing up for her. Women should never forget that their value begins in the home, for they are the caretakers, the bringers of life and the mothers of our children. Do not underestimate the value of those things as being a mother allows you to teach your children how to get to heaven, how to live boldly and with faith in this dark world and being a wife allows you to help your husband be a part of a family that relies on God. A woman’s role does not have to be one thing or another but it should always be a role of strength and dignity with love and compassion at its core. That is the love of God within you and God has provided women with the complex ability to keep a family together and to guide it in love and faith with trust and truth at its center.

There always seems to be an agenda on the table and as progress ticks away and women continue to fight for what they believe to be most important to them I can only hope that they remember to value what has always belonged to them from the beginning. Family is everything and while equal pay may seem to be the biggest priority to some this world seems to be allowing the family to fail. Industrial success will never replace the failures of our homes and women need to find the courage, like Mary, to believe in our Savior and to brave the opinions of others to declare their loyalty to Him as they live up to the great responsibilities that have been entrusted to them. It is not easy to choose faith over finances, faith over popularity, faith over apparent success or faith over personal gain but in the end heaven is waiting and families need strong women to guide them.

“And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell.  But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15

Pastor John Collins, evangelist and head pastor of Love That Cross Ministries, preaches the Holy Bible and promotes revival of faith in God across the United States and around the world.  Pastor John Collins writes daily devotionals that are posted on Facebook that focus on what we need to know about God, Jesus Christ, salvation, and eternity.  He does not candy coat his messages; so often churches today want to hear only the good or only what is politically positive as it relates to God and the church.  Pastors, in spite of knowing the scripture that says that false doctrine will be preached and the people will only want to hear what tickles their ears, preach what people want to hear, not what God laid as foundations to faith and the relationship with Him thousands of years ago.  Pastor John Collins wants to bring people back to God, wants to let people know that there is hope and salvation, that everyone has a chance to find God and make themselves right in order to gain true life.

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.  But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly. For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch therefore, and pray always that you may be counted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of Man.” Luke 21:33-36 (NKJV).

How can you know if you are worthy to stand before the Son of Man? Have you considered what that would be like? Have you ever thought of the moment that you will be before the Son of God and have to give an accounting of your life, your thoughts, your desires, your actions and your regrets? Have you ever sat down and considered what Jesus would think of your life? What would He say to you if He were standing beside you each day, if He were witnessing the whole of you? Nothing that we do is ever kept secret and all is known for that Day of Judgment.

It is not usually what we show to others that we should be ashamed of in ourselves. It is not what our congregations and co-workers see that we should re-think and change. Sometimes our families know our demons and sometimes we keep it to those strangers who couldn’t care less who we are or who we pretend to be in the light of day. Sometimes our deepest and ugliest desires are kept in the recesses of our minds and we think that we are clever in their imprisonment but God knows all and all will be known. What is acceptable to God is not what is acceptable to man. People like to use the shallow and entertaining things of this world to avoid dealing with the filth that can be found in the human heart, mind and soul. We cannot continue to use the superficial to delay dealing with the significant and there is nothing more significant than the destination of your soul once you are no longer bound by the flesh.

It is easy to take for granted that Christians take sin too seriously or that bible-thumpers are judgmental and stodgy. It is easy to ignore the implications of sin in this day and age, as it has always been, it will always be. There will always be those who choose to rebel and refuse to accept salvation. But, for those who would consider heaven as a destination but have no clue on how to begin to get there, especially when most churches leave much to be desired and the bible is overwhelming and unappealing then I suggest prayer. Pray to have your thoughts cleansed and your mind renewed. Pray to have your heart be made to respond to the love of God. Pray to be convicted in your wayward imagination and make the effort to change the way you think. Don’t expect immediate and complete success in your initial efforts but make the commitment to be aware of your mind and you will become aware of your heart along the way and believe me, things will change. When you want to please God and you make the effort, you will please Him. Imagine sitting next to God and having a conversation and that is where your prayers begin.

“Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.’” John 8:12 (NKJV).
